Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Tools #1 - Check Your Rankings

by Scott Allen

Over time, I’m going to share Search Engine Optimization tools that I’ve found to be useful.

The SEO Tools of the day are the Digital Point Keyword Tracker and Mike’s Keyword Ranking Tool. These tools let you check how your web site is ranked for various keywords, for free.

With the Digital Point Keyword Tracker, you can type in the URL, and the term you want to find the ranking for. It will give you rankings for Google, MSN, and Yahoo (the BIG 3), and allow you to track your data over time. Historical data tracking is a huge asset.

[EDIT 04/17/2007: This tool requires a Google SOAP API Key, which Google no longer provides. If you have a key it will still work, but if not, then this tool will only provide results for Yahoo and MSN.]

Mike’s Keyword Ranking Tool is another great keyword tracker tool if you want to check one term at a time. It will keep track of your last 20 entries so you can compare. It’s great if you just need a quick stat here or there. This tool will pull results from the following:

  • Search Engines: Google, Yahoo! Search, MSN, AllTheWeb, AltaVista, AOL
  • Web Directories: Yahoo! Directory, Open Directory (Dmoz), LookSmart

There you go. More SEO tools to come.
