Occasionally you will need to look up an IP address to find out info about a visitor to one of your web sites, or for a number of other reasons.

Why Do I Need to Look Up an IP Address?
For example, I routinely put Bot Traps on some of the sites we build, depending on the client’s needs. (For detailed info see earlier post on bot traps.) These Bot Traps catch several rogue bots a day, and ban their IP address if needed. Occasionally I need to look up info about an IP address that just got banned. If you do this a lot, you will need a sophisticated, automated tool, but if you only need to check occasionally, go to: http://www.dnsstuff.com/ and pop in the IP address to find out a ton about the visitor, including what city they are from. You can also find more info at or http://ws.arin.net/.
