WebGeek Version 2.0

by Scott Allen

I originally started this blog to document resources, tools, news, discoveries, tips, etc. that I use on a daily basis in web design and SEO. I never thought anyone would read it and it was originally intended for colleagues and friends to use as a resource. That’s all. Over the course of a year people actually started reading it.

After authoring this blog for over a year, I realized that I needed to make a few improvements to the site to make it more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing, if it was going to be consistent with my professional standards. I started the blog in Blogger because it was quick (and this wasn’t going to be a “real” site anyway), but when they “upgraded” to the “new” Blogger (don’t get me started), they added some features that are bad for SEO, and broke some some essential functions in the Blogger engine that they still haven’t fixed. Anyway, I much prefer WordPress, and use it for most of my clients who have blogs, so I decided to port this one over to WordPress. (It has a great developer community and a ton of plugins, including some great SEO plugins.) For now I’ll use a modified WordPress Theme, but eventually when I get more time, I’ll create a customized one. (That will be probably be WebGeek Version 3.0.)

Now, I make an active effort to put together useful information, tools and resources in the fields of web development and SEO. Also I’ve put together a page of tools and links that you may find useful. Please feel free to add your input thought comments, or if you have suggestions for improvements, contact me. I hope you find this blog helpful in your web design and SEO endeavors.

Here’s an overview of the new changes to the blog:

  • I ported the blog over from Blogger to WordPress, souped it up with some great SEO plugins, and now it’s ready to rock.
  • New look and feel - for now I’m using a modified theme, but eventually I’ll create a really customized one.
  • New page that includes useful SEO Links.
  • New page that includes useful WebDev Links.
  • New page where I’ll be adding Web Dev (and possibly SEO) Tools.
  • Increased focus on SEO going forward.

Welcome to WebGeek 2.0!
