   First, neat project!

   I’m enjoying WP 2.5 and especially liked the auto-plugin update for WP-SpamFree.

   Presently I see “WP-SpamFree has blocked 111 spam comments.”

   However, I also see “Akismet has protected your site from 82,522 spam comments”. Sadly, I did have to see many of those 82,522 spam comments.

   I’m curious if there are any metrics or ways to tell -who- was blocked by WP-SpamFree? Were they really even comments?

   Hi Jay,

   Thanks! Glad you like the plugin. The Akismet number likely includes spam comments for a long time before you installed WP-SpamFree. It’s likely you will see that number stay about the same, or increase slowly, while WP-SpamFree blocked spam number increases rapidly. Right now WP-SpamFree doesn’t log blocked comments for two reasons: 1) So blog owners don’t have to see any spam, and 2) so it doesn’t use excessive resources on your server. Several of the other anti-spam plugins bog your server down.

   I’ve gotten a couple of requests lately to add a feature like this, so it’s possible that in a future version, I might add some kind of optional logging feature that blog owners could turn on or off to spot check.

   Hello

   I’ve had some reports of incompatibility between a plugin of mine, Absolute Comments, and your WP-SpamFree. Regardless of how your plugin is coded, I have a suggestion: it shouldn’t do anything (not even load that is) when a comment is posted by someone who has editing write (blog owner or editor)

   Hey Ozh,

   Thanks for the heads up. I took a look at your plugin, and made the necessary modifications so the two could work together. You’re right, there’s no reason for WP-SpamFree to test comments from users with Admin privileges. This may also improve compatibility with other plugins. I tested the new version and Absolute Comments on a few of our test blogs, and they seem to be working just fine together now. Let me know if you still have any more reports of conflicts. BTW, your plugin looks great, and I’m looking forward to testing it out on some of our blogs.

   I am glad I came across this, just installed it and it blocked a comment already! Akismet was doing it’s job well, I just like having a way to prevent these bots from actually getting through to begin with. Thanks!
