Random SEO Thoughts: Basic Forum Etiquette and SearchMe.com Beta

Heads up…here comes a rant.
[RANT]So, I see something in SEO forums on a pretty frequent basis, that annoys me to no end. And I don’t think I’m the only one who finds it ridiculous. The users I’m talking about typically choose an SEO-related moniker that makes it sound like they would have some expertise, such as “seoguru”, “seocompany”, “masterseo” or something like that. (I’m not referring to any actual users who may have those usernames.) Then, and here’s the part that annoys people…they post answers (and not good ones) to search engine optimization questions in one thread, and then minutes later in another thread, they ask a super-basic question like “What’s PageRank?” or “Are backlinks important?” Oy. Now to clarify, I have no problem at all with helping newbies learn SEO…in fact I spend a lot of time doing just that. What I don’t like is the fakers who are trying to act like they are an expert when they aren’t. So a little piece of advice when it comes to forum etiquette…if you don’t know SEO that well, don’t choose “seojedi” for your username. People will be much more willing to help out “newbiebob”. :)[/RANT]
So, on to other topics…Have any of you tried out the beta of SearchMe.com? I’m not exactly sure how, but the other day I stumbled into their private beta signup page, and before long I had an email with an invitation. (Now they have opened up the beta to the public so head over to SearchMe.com if you would like to try it out.)
Their Flash-powered interface is awesome. It reminds me of iTunes when you’re browsing by Album cover.

Unfortunately the results are absolutely terrible. I did quite a few searches and some of the obvious contenders for each weren’t anywhere to be found for keywords that they would normally own on the Big 3. Now SearchMe is obviously in its infancy so I’ll give them some time to shape up their results. However, if they don’t, they’ll just end up becoming another great concept for a search engine that no one uses.

I gave SearchMe.com a quick try. The interface is certainly slick and I’m even willing to forgive the sparse results. The question I have is, beyond the UI, why are they a better search engine. It’s not apparent to me how they’re going to do a better job at relevancy.
Exactly my thoughts. If they don’t serve relevant results, the slick interface is just another cool (but useless) gadget.
